Since 2017, Daniel Winkler is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Vienna, where he teaches Italian, French and Francophone Literature and Cinema. He was Lecturer at the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna and Research Fellow at the École normale supérieure and the Institut historique allemand in Paris, at the Interdisciplinary Centre for European Enlightenment Studies in Halle and the Dresden University of Technology.
Daniel wrote his PhD thesis on Marseille as a cinematic city (Marseille! Eine Metropole im filmischen Blick, Schüren 2013, 2nd edition) and his Postdoctoral project on Italian tragedy in the Age of Enlightenment (Vittorio Alfieri und das republikanische Tragödienprojekt, Fink 2016). His Postdoctoral thesis was awarded with the Elise-Richter-Preis of the Deutsche Romanistenverband and the Otto-Seibert-Preis of the University of Innsbruck.
Daniel is co-editor of Zibaldone. Zeitschrift für italienische Kultur der Gegenwart and lettere aperte. He has co-edited more than 15 books and special issues. His publications include papers in refereed international journals such as CINéMAS, Journal of Film and Video, Romanische Forschungen, Annali di Ca' Foscari and Studies in French Cinema.
